IRRIGATION SERVICES

Do you have any of these common irrigation problems?

If you have any of the following irrigations problems, Atlas is here to help with an unsurpassed commitment to quality and customer satisfaction:

  • Nozzles that are clogged. Clogged nozzles can cause less water to be sprayed than normal due to dirt and debris – in addition to causing heads to pop out of the ground, which can cause damage to the system.
  • Sprinkler spray heads/rotor heads set too low. When the heads of your sprinkler system are set too low, the water will run off the ground instead of being absorbed by the roots.  The proper height is determined by the type of head along with the type of vegetation.
  • Improperly calibrated zones. Sprinkler systems with multiple zones must be properly calibrated in order to ensure even distribution of water and prevent dry conditions in one area and saturated soil in another.
  • Problems with pressure. Pressure problems are commonly caused by a leak in the system, clogged filters or worn-out pump seals.
  • Zone valves that are leaking or not properly closing. Zone valves, which control the flow of water to each zone, can cause problems in the entire system when leaking or not closing properly.
  • Old zone valves that don’t properly turn on or shut off. In older homes, original sprinkler system zone valves can become stuck or hard to turn. All valves are likely to fail at some point, so it’s best to replace them all at the same time.
  • A controller box or timer that doesn’t work right. Poor wiring, a bad battery or faulty zone valve can cause a controller box to malfunction, which can disable the entire system.
  • PVC pipes that are cracking or bursting underground. PVC pipes supply water to the sprinkler heads. If they crack or burst because of age, root intrusion or improper installation, you may notice water seeping out of the ground. This is another common problem with older sprinkler systems.

Frequently asked questions about irrigation and drainage system services

At Atlas, we’re always here to answer any questions you may have regarding our services.  Following are just a few of the most frequently asked questions and answers we encounter:

What is a Sprinkler System Reroute?

If your home is more than ten years old – or you move into a home that of this age – chances are that the original sprinkler heads and nozzles are still in place and the warranty has expired.   At Atlas, we’ll evaluate your system and, if needed, recommend an upgrade to help ensure everything is up-to-date and providing the most efficient and proper coverage for your current needs. Our solutions may include a landscape redesign – or additional zones due to other renovations you’ve had done to your house. This is commonly referred to as a Sprinkler System Reroute.

Sprinkler System Reroutes are done for a number of reasons, including:

  • When you’re ready to redesign your landscape, including modifications for a newly installed pool, hot tub, retaining wall, patio, sidewalk or outdoor kitchen.
  • If you’ve added a new section to your lawn or landscaping such as flowerbeds.
  • When you want to reconfigure your sprinkler system after an add-on to your house.
  • Any other modifications that would require additional or reconfigured zones for your landscaping, including the installation of pop-up micro-sprinklers for small gardens or drip irrigation.

Irrigation solutionsWhat is the Sprinkler System Reroute process?

At Atlas, our highly trained team of certified and licensed technicians is ready to complete your sprinkler system reroute in the most efficient and cost-effective manner possible.

  • Before we begin the process, we first analyze your landscaping in order to determine exactly how to design the layout to ensure your landscaping receives adequate hydration.
  • Once we’ve planned out the new layout, we’ll locate the original line, then dig a trench to excavate the line.
  • Next, we’ll remove the existing pipe and sprinklers, followed by laying out the new pipe and sprinklers.
  • We’ll then dig the new trench and insert the pipes, carefully calibrating the depth of the new trench to make sure the heads are at the appropriate height.
  • After flushing the pipes to remove debris, we’ll replace the heads and turn on the water to check for leaks. If necessary, we’ll perform repairs.
  • Finally, we’ll cover the pipes with soil, make sure they’re firmly placed and properly working, then check each sprinkler head and make necessary adjustments.
  • Once the process is completed, you can sit back and relax knowing you now have a system in place that will maximize efficiency and coverage while eliminating any waste.

What is drip irrigation?

Drip irrigation, also known as trickle irrigation, is an increasingly popular form of “micro-irrigation” that helps save water and nutrients by allowing water to slowly drip to the roots of plants, either from above the soil surface or buried beneath it.  The goal of drip irrigation is to place water directly into the root zone in order to minimize evaporation.  Drip irrigation systems distribute water through a network of pipes, valves, tubing and emitters. A well- designed and installed drip irrigation system can be more efficient than other forms of irrigation systems, including surface and sprinkler irrigation.

What are the benefits of drip irrigation?

Because moisture levels are kept at an optimal range with drip irrigation, there is an improvement in plant productivity and quality.  Additional benefits of drip irrigation include:

  • It allows the rows between plants to remain dry, resulting in improved access and reduced weed growth.
  • Prevents disease by minimizing water contact with leaves, stems and the fruit of plants.
  • Saves time, money, labor and water due to its superior efficiency.
  • Increases efficiency on uneven ground while reducing leaching of water (the process of washing the salts from the surface of the soil) and nutrients below the root zone.
  • Versatility and flexibility. Drip irrigation can easily adapt to slopes, rugged terrain and areas that receive a lot of wind.
